| Project Summary: |
Domestic Violence has no respect for person, race, age or sex. From isolation to intimidation, domestic violence is killing our women and children at an alarming rate. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "One out of every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime".
The play version is touring and the film The Anatomy Of A Woman Abused: Behind Closed Doors, is in pre-production.
The story chronicles the turbulent life of Geraldine Blevins and her struggles to escape her abusive marriage and is loosely based on author Jaisun McMillian's own experience with domestic violence. Through a combination of flashbacks, past and present tense, Geraldine tells her story, in her own words, from it's romantic beginning to terrifying end.
The play version is enjoying a successful run and will be a marketing boost for the film:

McMillian, who also directs this gripping tale, says both actors, Emelia Cowans and Kelvin De'Marcus Allen have such chemistry on stage that she still gets pulled into their incredible performances. "This is tough material for these actors--it's raw and dark, but we had to tell the story," says McMillian.
